Wistful Walking

I walked and watched
silhouette
of leaves
dance so shy
against the blushing
summer sky.

I walked by.
You were there
silently sitting
amidst the chatter.
A careless glance,
then a familiar spark
of recognition, and again
you raised
not a brow.

I walked on
thinking of that night
when we had almost
been friends.
Tonight,
we were back
to being strangers,
who have met
a thousand times.
